College hosts largest regional Dulux Decorators Competition in the UK!
14/06/2010The Dulux Decorator Centres’ National Apprentice of the Year Competition
2010 recently took place at Riverside College’s Kingsway Campus in
Widnes.
The Dulux Decorator competition is in its third year
running and has become a recognised and permanent feature in the
painting & decorating industry’s calendar. The competition aims to
reward the skills and creativity of talented apprentices and included 9
regional Colleges & companies and colleges across the North West
who put forward their top students.
The competition aims to provide painting and decorating students with a challenging, but fun and practical competition. Each student was tasked with a series of practical applications, comprising various elements of painting and decorating, covering wallpapering, stencilling, waterborne glosses, and special effects.
Representing Riverside College in the competition this year were Steph Anderson, a full time student at the college and Jake Newall an Apprentice completing his NVQ with the college.
Both students made an excellent effort for the College but were just pipped to the post by a more experienced student from Leeds College of Building.
John Ellis, College Manager for Construction at Riverside College said; “I am delighted with the standard of work produced by Jake and Steph in the competition and the work undertaken by their tutor Ian Moore in preparing them. They should all be very proud of their achievements.”
The winner of the Widnes heat now goes on to compete against eight other regional winners in the national final, which will take place at Leeds College on the 17th June 2010, where the overall winner will be crowned ‘Dulux Decorator Centres’ Apprentice of the Year 2010’ at an awards presentation.
