Riverside College student to play rugby for England Students

Michelle O'Brien - England Students InternationalRiverside College student Michelle O’Brien is brimming with pride after being selected to play for the England Students Rugby League tour in France.

The 20 year old is currently studying on an Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering with Riverside College and ‘Canlines Ltd’ in Widnes. She was one of only 22 students in the country picked to represent England in the rugby tournament, after grueling trials held at Edge Hill University.

Michelle who is from Widnes and is currently in her 2nd season for Halton Women & Girls ARLFC at Parklands said; “I was chuffed to bits when I got picked, the trails are really hard as there is always new talent coming through. It’s an honor to play for your country, you also get to experience playing along side some of the top sports people in the country.

Michelle’s Tutor at Riverside College and Rugby Coach, Anthony McMullen said; “This is fantastic experience for Michelle, playing in a highly competitive environment. I’m extremely proud of her getting into the squad and wish the team the best of luck.”
