Professor Fluffy helps pupils get funky
16/06/2010Pupils from a Runcorn primary school have been at Riverside College learning science, media as well as working with dance students to choreograph their own routine - and creating their own funky hair styles.
The Aimhigher Primary Project works with Year 5 pupils in primary schools throughout Greater Merseyside aiming to raise awareness and introduce higher education through a range of interactive and fun activities.
Riverside College provided unique and exciting activities, aimed to motivate and raise the aspirations of the young pupils from Murdishaw Primary School and inform them of education options available and help them make decisions about their future.
A group of current child care students acting as student ambassadors were selected to support and encourage the pupils throughout the day’s events.
In science they explored finger prints and were able to take their own prints as well as creating special potty putty which they could mold, stretch, bounce and much more providing them with unlimited fun and laughter.
The hair and beauty class allowed pupils to create their very own funky hair styles.
Pupils also had the chance to learn how to make convincing fake wounds and other great special effects during the Media-make up session.
As a special treat at lunch time two catering students introduced pupils how to fold their napkins into a variety of shapes including the bishop’s hat, a rose flower and a fan to set elegant and sophisticated tables.
The project gave students practical information about the wide range of education courses available and the career options that their qualifications might lead to.
The Professor Fluffy project was another example of Aimhigher’s on-going work to raise awareness and introduce higher education through a range of interactive and fun activities.
The project is part of a wider initiative with Aimhigher Greater Merseyside and the University of Liverpool.
Halton Borough Councl's Executive Board Member for Children, Young People and Families, Cllr John Swain, said: “All parents can be proud of their children's hard work, behaviour and effort whilst representing Murdishaw Primary School.
“The quality of work produced by those attending was excellent and testament to the gifts and talents of the young people of Murdishaw Primary School.
“As well as being fun the Professor Fluffy Project sessions introduced pupils to the idea that college and university can be a great choice for them to take after Primary and Secondary School”.
