Students studying Construction and Building Services at Riverside College will benefit from the exceptional workshops in our brand new £3.6 million Construction Centre.
We offer training in a wide range of trades including plumbing, carpentry and joinery, brickwork, painting and decorating and construction management. In Halton and the surrounding areas there are big plans for large construction projects which will create a wide range of jobs within the industry. Projects such as The Mersey Gateway and the new super port will create jobs for people skilled in a variety of construction trades.

More than just a course
The Construction and Building Services department at Riverside College has a reputation for delivering outstanding success for students making it the number one provider in the area. We are up to date with modern industry standards and practices and will help and prepare you for work in today’s industries. We work closely with Mersey Link, the company who are building the Mersey Gateway which is the biggest construction project in Europe to offer students work placements, apprenticeships and progression into employment.

- Take part in UK Skillbuild and other regional and national competitions
Completion of an appropriate Level 2 qualification in the relevant construction discipline.
Completion of an appropriate qualification in the relevant construction discipline or 4 GCSEs grade A* – D (including Maths and English Language at Grade C) or numerical equivalent.
A minimum of 4 A* – E GCSE subject grades or numerical equivalent, including Maths and English Language.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However you will need a keen interest in this subject and have a good level of English Language.
What could these courses lead on to?
At Riverside College you can progress through the levels from Entry Level to Level 3. By achieving qualifications in Construction and Building Services you will be able to access a wide range of employment opportunities and apprenticeships with local, national and global employers.
Following the Level 3 courses many students progress on to higher level technical courses to develop organisational skills and take up managerial responsibility.

Come along to our open events to see the outstanding workshop facilities provided for students studying on Construction and Building Services Courses in our brand new Engineering and Construction Centre.
The £3.6 million new building and equipment means that students will develop their skills using the absolute latest industry equipment, techniques and technologies, enhancing their employability and preparing them for the future of the construction industry.
The new workshops have also facilitated the extension of courses at the College to include Level 3 Plumbing and Electrical Installation, and future plans include the introduction of new courses covering emerging sectors such as environmental technologies.
SPAX UK Ltd help construction students gain industry experience
Leading screw and fixings supplier, SPAX UK Ltd, have given construction students at Riverside College the opportunity to try out the latest joining technologies, with product demonstrations and practical sessions at the College.
SPAX UK Ltd Sales Manager, David Andrews, worked with students to explain the benefits of the company’s new products in different installation scenarios. The students then had the chance to try the products for themselves, gaining vital experience to help prepare for future careers.
