Motor Vehicle

The Motor Vehicle industry is ever changing with technology and development. Here at Riverside College, we provide the opportunity to train in our modern, spacious and well equipped workshops with the latest diagnostic equipment alongside our staff that have a wealth of Motor Industry experience. You will train as a Vehicle Technician, learning all of the skills that you will need to work in this fast-moving industry, along with work placement opportunities and numerous trips and visits.

Engineering

Engineering is a diverse and extremely prosperous industry across the world. Here at Riverside College we work closely with global engineering companies to provide an unparalleled learning experience. We provide the opportunity to train using industry standard technology; including virtual reality welding sets, CNC machines and 3D printing suites. With our fantastic industry links we can offer visits and tours to many national engineering companies. We also offer many work placements and a multitude of apprenticeship pathways.

Motorsport

The Motorsport industry is a fast paced and exciting career that will take you around the world. At Riverside College we have a fleet of race proven vehicles that are prepared, maintained and raced during the Motorsport course which include Formula Renault open wheel race cars and Group N rally cars. You will be involved in high level research and development, and complete projects for high profile motorsport teams; including materials development using 3D printing. We will arrange work placements to hone your taught skills and visits to some of the top race teams in the UK.

Electrical Installation

If you want to follow a career as an electrician or domestic installer, then we have a range of courses for you. Units of study include the principles of Electrical Science, Electrical Installations Technology, and Wiring Systems and Enclosure installation. Our staff have a wealth of industry experience and are passionate about the trade, which will help to relate the course with future employment. Our courses are nationally recognised City & Guilds qualifications.

Entry Requirements

Level 3

Completion of an appropriate Level 2 qualification in Engineering / Electrical Installation / Motor Vehicle / Motorsport

Level 2

Completion of an appropriate qualification in Engineering / Electrical Installation / Motor Vehicle or 4 GCSEs grade A* – D (including Maths and English Language at Grade C) or numerical equivalent

Level 1

A minimum of 4 A* – E GCSE subject grades or numerical equivalent, including Maths and English Language

Entry Level

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However you will need a keen interest in this subject and have a good level of English and maths.

What could these courses lead on to?

At Riverside College you can progress through the levels from entry level to level 3 and beyond with our HNC in Mechanical Engineering. By achieving qualifications in Engineering and Motor Vehicle you will be able to access a wide range of employment opportunities and apprenticeships with local, national and global employers.

The Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering is ideal for students wishing to progress to university to study foundation degrees, BEng or BSc degrees. The one year Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology is designed to prepare students for progression into an apprenticeship or further industry qualifications at a higher level.

The level 3 Motor Vehicle Diploma also prepares students for degrees in motor related subjects, higher apprenticeships or employment in a motor vehicle technician role.

Engineers of Tomorrow Inspired at Jaguar Land Rover

Students had the exciting opportunity to visit the Jaguar Land Rover manufacturing plant in Halewood, home to the Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport vehicles.

The students were given a guided tour of the production facilities which covers all stages of the assembly process, including the sheet metal press, robotic body construction and final preparations before the customer-ready end product is delivered. Students then discussed the manufacturing process and facilities with members of the Jaguar Land Rover educational team, gaining expert industry knowledge.
 

Engineering Students Inspired to ‘Get In, Go Far’

Taking place at the College’s new £3.6 million Engineering and Construction Skills Centre, a day of practical work, employability and assessment was recently held at Riverside College for prospective Engineering Apprentices.

Previous Apprentices from the College, who are in full time employment or studying towards engineering degrees, returned on the day to inspire the students with their experience and give them the opportunity to ask questions and gain career advice on securing an engineering apprenticeship.
