OUTSTANDING RESULTS 2011

100% Vocational Pass Rate, 90% High Grades & 50% Triple Distinctions

99.7% A Level Pass Rates & 76% High Grades

College students celebrating on A Level Results dayStudents and teachers at Riverside College have celebrated outstanding results this year with an overall Vocational pass rate of 100% and an A level pass rate of 99.7%.

These results are a further improvement on the 2010 results which placed the College firmly at the top of the league tables in this area.

Just some of the A level subject highlights for the College include 49% of all Science and Maths subject grades being A*s and As and 100% of all Music grades being A*s and As.

Mary Murphy, Head of the sixth Form said “These outstanding results further establish the College as a centre of academic excellence. The people of Widnes and Runcorn can have total confidence that their local sixth form college provides education of an outstanding quality.

“We are absolutely delighted with the excellent A level results our students have achieved this year. They are now making their way to University and I wish them every success.

“Looking forward the College is going from strength to strength. We have recruited some of the best teaching staff in the country and have launched Centres of Excellence in Science and Maths, Performing Arts and Sport. We are continuing to invest in our teachers and our facilities, whilst providing individualised pastoral care and an extensive programme of enrichment”

“The College is also celebrating outstanding vocational results, with a 100% pass rate in level three qualifications and 88% high grades. 50% of our vocational students achieved three distinctions which is equivalent to 3 A grades at A level.”

Christopher Schlecte Bond: A* A* A B

Christopher Schlecte Bond, previously of Wade Deacon High School in Widnes, is now off to Kings College London to study music after achieving an A* in Music, A* in Psychology, A in English and a B in French.

Chris said, “I am really happy with my results, I worked really hard and I’m glad it’s all paid off. I’m looking forward to going to university and moving to London, but I will miss Widnes. In the future ultimately I would like to compose music for films.”

Whilst at College, alongside his A levels, Chris was part of the Centre of Excellence for Performing Arts and was involved in major college performances composing an original score for the college’s summer show, a Mid Summer Night’s Dream.

Paige Stokes: A A A A

Paige Stokes, another high flier, previously of Carne Senior High School in Australia came to Cronton without traditional GCSEs after relocating to Widnes from Cairns, Australia. Paige achieved all As in Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Physics and is now off to the University of Leeds to study Neuroscience.

Paige said, “I would like to work as a neurologist. I have really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere at College and the teachers are great.” Paige took part in the Daresbury Mentorship Scheme whilst at College, a programme which pairs science students with industry professionals to work on innovative projects in real working situations.

Anna Lightfoot: A A A B

Anna Lightfoot, previously of Bankfield High School was also delighted to receive an A in Psychology, A in Biology, A in Chemistry and a B in Maths. Now off to Lancaster University to study Biomedical Science, Anna said, “I am really pleased. This College has a fantastic science department and my psychology teachers have been great as well”.

Craig Glover: 3 Distinctions in Vocational Sport & A at A level Art

Craig Glover, from Fairfield High School, has received the highest grades possible in his BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport of three distinctions whilst at College, equivalent to three A grades at A level. Today he came back to pick up his A grade for the A level Art that he had been studying along side his vocational course.

Craig said, “I’m going to Hope University to study Art and Education, and eventually want to be a teacher, teaching both art and sport. The atmosphere, the teachers and the personal tutors all make this College a really special place”.

Eylul Sonlu:: A A A A A

Eylul Sonlu was delighted with her five As in Turkish, Photography, Art, Graphics and Textiles. Eylul, originally from Turkey, is also eagerly awaiting some results for the English for Speakers of Other Languages qualification she has been studying at the College along side all five of her A levels. She is nnow off to Liverpool University to study Architecture.

Andrew Doyle: A A A

Andrew Doyle, previously of the Grange Comprehensive School, was thrilled with his A in Physics, A in Chemistry and A in Maths. He is now off to York to undertake a Physics Degree in order to become a Physics Teacher.

Andrew said, “I am thrilled with my results. The friendly atmosphere at the College is really conductive to learning”. Andrew was also awarded the ‘Outstanding Support in Maths and Science’ Award for the help that he gave to fellow students.
