Riverside College and Cronton Sixth Form College were delighted to welcome Labour MP for Walton and Electoral Mayor Candidate for Liverpool City Region Steve Rotheram, Labour MP for Halton Derek Twigg, and Councillor Rob Polhill to college for a tour of the campuses and to meet with students.

The tour was arranged as an opportunity to discuss the Skills Agenda and to show off what the colleges and further education sector has to offer; from A level courses, to vocational courses, higher education and apprenticeships.

Starting at Cronton Sixth Form, the tour began with an opportunity for apprentices who are working at companies including GETRAG Ford Transmissions, Hutchinson Engineering Ltd and Howdens Joinery, to meet with the visitors. Steve Rotheram then answered questions from the apprentices and provided a talk on his plans for future employment opportunities in the industry.

The tour then continued with a visit to A level Government and Politics, where the students were able to ask the visitors challenging questions on current topics including Brexit and the Liverpool City Region mayoral election.

Attention then turned to the brand new IDEA Centre; a state of the art building at the campus opening in May 2017, which will educate students using some of the most advanced industry equipment and learning methods.
