What is this course about?
This is an introductory programme that is designed to give you the skills and knowledge required to learn the basic beauty therapy treatments. You will work in our College Beauty salons developing your skills in makeup, skincare, nails services and nail art. You will also take part in photo shoots and fashion shows.

16/18: A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 – 2 including English Language and Maths. Beauty is a personal service, people skills and personal presentation is also important.
19+: Interview and level 1 English and Entry 3 Maths on assessment or evidence of achieving within the last 5 years.
What will this course lead on to?
Progression onto a Level 2 programme, employment as an assistant in a beauty salon.
What will I learn on this course?
Introduction to the hair and beauty sector, presenting a professional image in a salon, create an image using colour for the beauty sector, skin care, applying basic make up, themed face painting. Provide nail art services, providing manicure treatments, providing pedicure treatments, create a hair and beauty image and follow health and safety in the salon. As part of this course you will be also required to work on English and Maths as this will increase your job opportunities or progression on to higher education.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by ongoing assessments throughout the programme, tests may be required to complete units and check knowledge, also you will have to complete projects and produce a portfolio of your work.
Are there any costs relating to this course?
The course requires a full kit, (Level 1 and 2 kit costs to be confirmed for 2018) and text book and a tunic top (approximately £25.00 plus postage and packing), you must also wear full length black trousers and a full black shoe. You will have to provide files etc. for your course work and photographic evidence is required for practical assessments.

At the Centre of Excellence for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy we have recently refurbished contemporary facilities, including three hairdressing salons, three beauty salons, two media make up studios and a nail salon. This provides students with the opportunity to run their own salons and showcase their skills to the public
