This course will prepare you for the exciting career in bridal, fashion, T.V and Film makeup artistry. On the course you will learn make up techniques for the catwalk, photographic shoots, television and film.

Entry Requirements: 16/18: Completion of Level 2 in the subject, plus a minimum of grade 9 – 4 in English Language and Maths. You will also need to attend a trade test and admissions interview. 19+: Completion of Level 2 in the subject, plus a minimum of Level 2 in English and Level 1 in Maths on assessment or evidence of achieving within the last 5 years. You will also need to attend a trade test and interview.
What will this course lead on to? Higher level and degree courses – Advanced fashion or prosthetics/special effects make up. Employment within the industry – Photographic studios, TV, film, fashion houses, theatre or work as a free-lance artist or session stylist.
What will I learn on this course? By demonstrations and practical activities you will be able to: Style and fit postiche, create “avante – garde” fashion make up looks , apply camouflage make up, monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon, apply airbrush make up, complete fashion & photographic make up looks ,create and apply prosthetic pieces and bald caps, design & apply face and body art and cut and style hair for performers. As part of this course you will also be required to work on English and Maths as this will increase your job opportunities or progression on to Higher Education.

How will I be assessed? You will be carrying out assessments throughout the year in preparation for your end of year practical assessment . You will also be assessed on your theory knowledge throughout the year, which will help prepare you for your final written test at the end of your course.
Are there any costs associated with this course? The course requires a full kit (costs for the kit in 2018 are to be confirmed) and a tunic top (approximately £25.00 plus postage and packing), you must also wear full length black trousers and a full black shoe. You will have to provide files etc. for your course work and photographic evidence is required for practical assessments. 19+: Please enquire about the cost of this course starting in 2018. If you are in receipt of certain benefits or are starting your first full level 2 or 3 course (conditions apply) your fees may be free. If you are 19 or over and studying a level 3 qualification you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan. These loans will cover the full course fee for the duration of your course. This means you do not have to pay any money up front, and you will not make any repayments until you are earning £21,000 per year.
Facilities: At the Centre of Excellence for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy we have recently refurbished contemporary facilities, including three hairdressing salons, three beauty salons, two media make up studios and a nail studio. This provides students with the opportunity to run their own salons and showcase their skills to the public.
