What is this course about?
This qualification is designed to develop your skills for a career as a nail technician. Through demonstrations and practical experience working on clients in the college industry salons, you will learn the various techniques of manicure, pedicure, nail enhancement, gel polish, and nail art services. Your practical skills will be combined with the study of anatomy and physiology and customer care.

What will I learn on this course?
On this course you will learn all the techniques that you require to become a nail technician, including Health and safety, promotion of services and product, manicure and pedicure techniques, applying and maintaining nail enhancements, nail art services and gel polish skills. As part of this course, you will be also required to work on English and Maths as this will increase your job opportunities or progression on to higher education.
Entry requirements:
Working at Level 1 in English on our college assessment or a minimum GCSE grade D/3 or Level 1 English qualification(including reading and writing). You will also have a college admissions interview.
What will this course lead on to?
Progression onto the advanced level three nail services qualification. You may wish to pursue a career as a nail technician on cruise ships with Steiner, Nail bars, Spas, Beauty Salons or self-employment.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by on-going practical assessments throughout the programme, with a final practical assessment at the end of your course. You will be tested on your theoretical understanding throughout the beauty therapy programme, with a final theory exam at the end of your course.

Are there any costs associated with the course?
The course requires a nails kit: £150 (costs to be confirmed for 2023) and a tunic (approximately £25.00 plus postage and packing), you must also wear full length black trousers and a full black shoe. You will have to provide a lever arch file, for your course work and photographic evidence is required for practical assessments.
**You may be eligible to access financial support to help with the cost of your kit and tunic.
Facilities:
At the Centre of Excellence for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy we have recently refurbished contemporary facilities, including a nail salon, three hairdressing salons, three beauty salons and two media make up studios. This provides students with the opportunity to run their own salons and showcase their skills to the public.
