ESOL – Communication for the Health and Social Care Sector

What is this course about?/
This course is about developing /speaking and listening English for people whose first language is not English.
What will I learn on this course?
You will learn practical communication skills in English based around a health and social care setting. Units include talking to your GP, applying for a job and different job roles available.
Enrichment Opportunities:
There are several enrichment opportunities available to all ESOL students. These include visits to museums and local walks, the driving theory test and first aid courses.

If students pass the exam, they will receive a certificate which can enhance job opportunities.
How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed by the tutor on an ongoing basis. There is no formal exam attached the course.
What are the Entry Requirements?
An initial interview to assess speaking, listening, reading & writing skills.
What will this course lead on to?
Students can progress to ESOL classes
Are there any course costs?
The course has been specifically commissioned by the Liverpool City Region and therefore it is only available to LCR residents (Liverpool, Halton, Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton, Wirral).
If you live in the LCR areas this course is FREE regardless of your circumstances.
You must come from a country within the EU, have lived in the UK for 3 years or have an appropriate visa. You will need to meet a set of guidelines for the course to be free, if you do not meet the guidelines then a fee will apply.
We do recommend that you buy a copy of the Functional Skills workbook at the appropriate level.
