What is this course about?
This unique course combines the health units from the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health Studies (including Science) with industry experience within a beauty therapy context. These varied experiences enable you to develop professional skills, knowledge, skills and qualities to a high standard. Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health Studies combined with a Level 2 Award in Skincare and Facial in year 1 and Level 3 in Electrical Treatment in year 2.
Why choose this course?
This is an exciting combination of health related units blended with an emphasis on non-invasive cosmetic procedures which will allow for a progression pathway in to aesthetics after gaining a nursing degree. A nursing degree is essential to be able to administer treatments including Botox and fillers.
Entry Requirements: A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 9 – 4 including a grade 4 in English Language and maths and a 5 in science. Students must also have a clear DBS
What will I learn on this course?
The course will enable you to develop the knowledge and skills required to work in a range of health related professions, including Anatomy and physiology, psychology, sociology and physiological disorders and Science for Health.
The additional beauty elements will give students the opportunity to learn skills including, Facial Peels, Micro current, Galvanism, High Frequency, Natural Facelift Massage, Thai Herbal and Acupressure Facial.
Students will be required to complete 150 hours of placement within a hospital setting which will enable you develop your practical and personal skills that you will need to be successful in your chosen career.
How will I be assessed?
Personal and professional development – this unit involves at least 150 hours of placement to be successfully completed in a range of health and social care or early year’s settings. Students must reflect on each experience using tutor and mentor reports and their own evaluations and produce a portfolio. There will be four exams over the two years.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
All students will require a DBS £44.00, a beauty kit £25.00, Tunic £25.00 (Subject to change for 2020) you must also wear full length black trousers and a full black shoe.
Our fantastic new 2-bed ward with simulated patients and an accessible care suite helps students to experience a real work environment. You will be able to carry out many practical elements of the course such as taking blood pressure, checking heart rates and pulse, and practice moving and handling. Students will complete beauty units within the College’s industry standard VITA beauty salons.
What can this course lead onto?
Successful completion of this course could lead to a BA (Hons) degree in Adult & Children’s Nursing, with a focus on the Aesthetics Clinician route.
