What is this course about?
This course is ideal for anyone who wants an introduction to some of the latest engineering sectors with the aim of re-training and pursuing a career in advanced manufacturing maintenance and renewable technologies. The course consists of Level 2 elements and is primarily a practical hands on course with supporting written units. The course is suited for adults with a keen interest in engineering or possibly a current role within the sector and considering a role change.
The course is designed to help close a current skills gap with the Liverpool City Region, engineering technicians with high-level skills in multi skilled mechanical and electrical maintenance have been identified by multiple engineering companies in the region as need. Delivery will be a mix of on-site activities and blended online learning, upon completion you will achieve an LCR backed College Certificate.
You will be introduced to some of the following topics during the 12-week short course.
- Working safely and effectively
- Design, construct, test electrical circuits
- Mechanical maintenance and repair
- Mechatronics operation
- Computer Aided Design CAD
- Computer Aided Manufacture CAM/CNC
- Renewable energy technology and testing

This course is ideal for a technician currently working in the engineering sector who is interested in the possibility of re-training to change their role, it is also advantageous to an individual who is interested in the engineering sector but who has no formal experience and would like a course designed to offer a taster without the need to enrol on a full-time qualification before exploring the sector.

This course is a course designed to show some of the newest engineering technologies that are in short supply across the region, this course could lead to a full level 3 qualification in a chosen field or employment in a new engineering sector.
What will I learn on this course?
On this course you will learn how to work safely in an engineering environment and introduce the practical skills essential for employment in the industry. You will be given an insight to multiple roles within the Liverpool City Region (Liverpool, Widnes, Runcorn, St Helens, Knowsley Sefton, The Wirral) which are currently in short supply.
How will I be assessed?
Depending on the units covered, you could be assessed via practical tests, written tests, and observations.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
This course is FREE for residents of the Liverpool City Region (Liverpool, Halton, Knowsley, St Helen’s, Sefton, Wirral), regardless of your individual circumstances. (TBC for 2023).
Learners will be expected to provide their own safety footwear, overalls & eye protection.
