Course Details
This qualification aims to give learners knowledge of different Specific Learning Difficulties, how they are diagnosed and how individuals can be supported in their everyday life. The qualification can be used by a wide range of learners looking to improve their knowledge and awareness in this subject area. It is designed for learners who wish to develop an understanding of dyslexia and other Specific Learning Difficulties. This qualification will be suitable for teaching staff, care staff or anyone looking to build their knowledge of dyslexia and other learning difficulties. The qualification would be suitable for those working within healthcare, social care and education contexts.
What will I learn on this course?
There is an introduction to what is meant by the term ‘Specific Learning Difficulties’ and the range, characteristics and nature of the following specific learning difficulties:
- ADHD/ADD
- Dyslexia
- Developmental Coordination Disorder (dyspraxia)
- Dyscalculia.
Learners will also learn about the effects of Specific Learning Difficulties and the strengths and barriers faced by individuals with Specific Learning Difficulties as well as how support can be provided in different settings and how individualised support is provided.
Learners will also look at legislation in relation to Specific Learning Difficulties and how attitudes, legislation and services have changed over time.

There is the potential for course related enrichment such as trips and guest speakers. You will have the opportunity to work with others in a supportive and friendly environment.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed with your progress throughout the course and will build a portfolio of assignments/workbooks which will be assessed at the end of the course.
What are the entry requirements?
GCSE grade D/3 or above or L1 Functional Skills in English or achieving Level 1 on our college assessment.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
There is a fee of £300. (TBC for 2023)
