A Behind the Scenes Look at MediaCityUK
Students from the HND Computing course at Riverside College had the opportunity to get a behind the scenes tour of Salford’s MediaCityUK and see future exciting career pathways.
MediaCityUK is home to a host of BBC channels and programme favourites such as Match of the Day, Blue Peter, A Question of Sport, Mastermind, BBC Breakfast, Radio 5 live, CBBC, BBC Sport and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
Along the tour the students were able visit an interactive studio where live radio shows were being broadcast. They also got to visit the famous BBC Breakfast Studio and the Blue Peter recording sets.
The group were able to meet TV presenter Roger Johnson who was very informative on his role in the BBC and explained how BBC News worked. The students were also able to make their own news and weather bulletin in the interactive studio which was great fun.
Sandra Soffe, IT and Computing tutor at Riverside College said “Overall, it was a fantastic day and gave the students to opportunity to think about how they could use their IT skills in the future; perhaps one day working as networking technicians at this fascinating place of work in the North of England.”
