Hair and Media Makeup Students Impress Judges at Annual Competition
Talented Riverside students wowed local employers at the College’s annual Hair and Media Makeup competition held in the Centre Stage Theatre.
The students worked extremely hard during the day, following strict competition criteria in order to impress the external judges consisting of Ruth Wheeler, owner of hair and makeup salon Orchard Blush, Natalie Wadup owner of Crystal Hair and Beauty Salon in Prescot, former Riverside student Mia Hogan, Salon Manager at Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy and Dawn Steele a freelance makeup artist and an audience of family and friends.
One of the judges Mia Hogan said, “I was really honoured to be asked back to Riverside to judge the competition. There were so many great designs and ideas it was hard to pick a winner, all of the students did themselves proud. It is a fantastic experience and opportunity for the students to show their skills and creativity to possible future employers.”
Suzanne McGucken, Hairdressing Tutor at Riverside College said, “The students all worked extremely hard, well done to all of the winners. The competition was a fantastic opportunity to prepare for the ‘Hair and Media Makeup Show Case’ which this year is in partnership with New Look who will be launching their Spring/Summer range with the help of the talented Riverside students on the 30th March.
“The event is always a big success and raises money for the Mayor of Halton’s charities so it is fantastic that the students had the opportunity to use the competition as preparation for this big showcase.”
The tickets for the Hair and Makeup Showcase are now on sale from the College costing £5.00 and platinum tickets £12.00 (to include a hot supper and goodie bag).
