Head of Construction is published author of new national text book
Shaun O’Malley, Head of Construction and Building Services at Riverside College, has given his students a fantastic head start to their plumbing qualification with the publication of his new book.
Before training as a teacher, Shaun worked as a plumbing and heating engineer and as a technician in the industry for over ten years before deciding to pass on his knowledge to others in the classroom and now nationally through the publication of his second book, the Level 3 GAS (Technical Knowledge for Gas Operatives).
The new book is the only published gas textbook which covers and supports the NVQ Level 3 qualification in plumbing and heating.
Shaun said, “Pearson, the publishers of the book were pleased with my contribution in the production of training materials for the level 2 NVQ text book and approached me to write the Level 3 text books.
“Both of these books will be used in classrooms and training centres across the UK and I feel very privileged to be able to pass on my knowledge and skills to help to train the next generation of plumbers and heating engineers.
“The timing is great for the students at Riverside College as we have just launched the Level 3 Plumbing qualification for the first time, along with the opening of the new Gas Centre at the Kingsway Campus, meaning that students can not only complete their whole training with us but they can also keep up to date with their ACS qualifications onsite.”
“The new Level 3 Plumbing students have settled in well and are now busy designing the bays for our new facilities, their next project will be to install the plumbing systems into the bays themselves, giving them some fantastic industry experience.”
“If anyone is interested in training to be a plumber or any trade in the construction industry, the open evening at Riverside College is on Wednesday 20th November 5pm – 7pm were people can look at our new facilities and the courses we have to offer.”
