Local hairdresser expands her business to offer new apprenticeships
Local hairdresser and businesswomen Nikki Sheakey, who has managed her Runcorn hair and beauty salon ‘Mirror Image’ for nineteen years, has just branched out with a second salon ‘Brook Image Hair and Beauty’ in Halton Brook with the help of her apprentices.
Nicky, who was named as the ‘Halton Apprentice Employer of the Year’ last year, also works at Riverside College as a Hairdressing Tutor. She said, “I employed my first hairdressing apprentice Stevie many years ago and I have since employed Georgia as a second hairdressing apprentice.
“Eight months ago I decided to open my second salon Brook Image so that I could offer more apprenticeship opportunities for local people to train as hairdressers or beauty therapists. The apprentices now get even more work based experience as they all spend time in both of the salons as well as one day per week at Riverside College to gain their qualification.
“The new salon not only offers students a great training environment but it also means I can offer my clients including Halton Brook residents and the staff at Riverside Housing discounted prices for their hair, nails and beauty treatments to help people in the local community.
“I was really pleased to have been awarded the ‘Halton Apprentice Employer of the Year’ last year and I hope to continue to work with Riverside College to offer apprenticeships and Power in Partnership to support training and work experience to unemployed people in my new salon and therefore help them to kick start a new career in this industry.”
