Painting and Decorating Student Has First Place in Sight
Tony Ierston, a talented painting and decorating student at Riverside College and apprentice at Bell group UK, is delighted after impressing his tutors and judges at the Apprentice Painting and Decorating Association Competition 2019.
The event took place at Accrington and Rossendale College and is the second competition that Tony has entered in as many years, after placing 2nd in the Johnstone’s Painter of the Year Competition previously.
The competition results are yet to be announced, however through his previous experiences Tony has a great chance of achieving success. If he achieves 1st place, then he will be invited to London to be presented with an award at a prestigious ceremony.
Tony began the day extremely well, taking each element of the competition in his stride. Working against the clock, he demonstrated the fantastic skills that he has developed during his time at Riverside College and on his apprenticeship at Bell Group, to complete the challenges to the highest possible standard. Tony was impressively one of 13 nominees who finished the whole assessment.
Tony also supported by Brewers Decorating Centre who generously supplied him with all the tools and equipment he needed for the event.
Programme Area Leader for Painting and Decorating, John Rowlands said, “I was really pleased with how Tony conducted himself, and I am proud to see how well he has progressed. The Bell Group are equally happy with his progress and they continue to support all of our students in the Academy.”
