Riverside College’s Scholars Training Restaurant enjoyed a glowing review after being featured on BBC Radio Merseyside’s weekly ‘Monday Munchies’ foodie segment.
A fan-favourite part of the Jenny-Lee Summers show, Monday Munchies highlights a different restaurant each week. Radio presenter Jo Krasner is the host of the segment and travels to various establishments to sample their menus, experience the hospitality and provide her feedback to listeners.
The Scholars Restaurant was delighted to welcome Jo for a three course meal. Speaking about the visit, Jo commented, “You know when you go somewhere like this the cost is very, very good, but also the standard is usually quite amazing because these (the students) are budding chefs.”
The keen foodie enjoyed a tasty menu of tomato soup to start, grilled rainbow trout with couscous, carrot and courgette ribbons for the main course, and apple charlotte with custard for dessert.
Jo added, “It’s really lovely inside. It’s as good as any restaurant you will go to. The service that they provided, I must say my waitresses there were fantastic.”
Jo also brought a Scholars Restaurant sample of chickpea stew with falafel along for show presenter Jenny-Lee Summers to try which went down a storm. Jenny-Lee said, “Not only did it go, but I did use my finger to scoop around the bowl to finish it! It was absolutely beautiful.”
The Scholars Restaurant is open from 12pm to 1pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during College term times. If you would like to experience Scholars Restaurant yourself, please call 0151 257 2015 to book a table or email scholars@riverside.ac.uk.
