The cakes were judged against strict criteria of taste, texture, creativity and presentation by Stephen Parkinson; Head of the Centre of Excellence in Catering and Hospitality, catering tutor Maureen Nicholls and last year’s competition winner; Business Administration apprentice Jessica Rodon.
After coming second place in three previous college bake offs, first place went to Carol Walker, Placement Coordinator at Riverside, who impressed the judges with her fantastic take on ‘Afternoon Tea’.
First and second place competition entries
She commented, “What a lovely event to take part in, raising money for such a great cause and a lot of fun. Consistent 2nd place is good, but I am over the moon to be the winner. Mary Berry, eat your heart out!”
Following the competition the cakes went on sale at the College with a fantastic £321.43 made on the morning which will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.
