Animal Management learners have a ‘hoot’ of a time
The Lancashire Hawks and Owls recently visited Cronton Sixth Form College Animal Management students for an exciting interactive event.
Animal Management students were given the opportunity to quiz the bird handling experts, watch demonstrations and were the opportunity for hands on experience.
This visit aimed to support their work on wildlife rehabilitation, animal behaviour, animal health and welfare, anatomy and physiology.
Lancashire Hawks and Owls is a charity which started 12 years ago looking after injured and unwanted owls and birds of prey. It is run by Michael Parker and Margaret Price of Blackburn and Chorley.
Margaret said; “The majority of the birds are rescued, some injured in road accidents and others are from sanctuaries that have closed down – we get them from everywhere. It is fantastic to be able to share the experience of bird handling with the students, it is very rewarding to see them learn from our experiences.”
The BTEC National Diploma in Animal Management lends itself to practical experience so every field of expertise is explored to provide students with a wide variety of opportunity so that they can pursue their chosen career paths fully.
