What is this course about?
The AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting is an ideal starting point for anyone wishing to pursue a career in accountancy or finance.
The purpose of this qualification is to offer grounding in the core accounting knowledge and skills needed to progress either to employment or to further study. This qualification is suitable for young people who have just left school as well as adults returning to work after a break or for anyone wishing to change career. The Foundation Certificate is open to those who are working and those who are not currently in employment.
What will I learn on this course?
You will study various aspects of accountancy to develop your skills and knowledge. The following mandatory units will be covered:
- Bookkeeping transaction
- Bookkeeping controls
- Elements of costing
- Working effectively in finance
- Using accounting software
You must have achieved GCSEs at grade C or grade 4 or above or Level 2 equivalent in English and Maths.

In addition to the course fees you will also need to pay a student membership fee directly to the AAT.
How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed through computer based assessments at the end of each unit. You will also undertake an end of year synoptic test once all units have been completed.
What will this qualification lead to?
Upon successful completion of this course you may wish to progress onto further study by completing our Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting. Alternatively you may wish to seek out employment within entry level accountancy roles.
