What is this course about?
The course will cover the following topics: Safe Working Practices, Information, Quantities and Communication with Others, Building Methods and Construction, Erect and dismantle working platforms, Prepare surfaces, Applying paint systems by brush and roller, Apply foundation and plain papers, produce specialist decorative finishes. The practical work you will undertake will prepare you for real life situations. You will complete out of college projects designed to support the community and allow you to gain valuable experience on site.

Riverside College has developed a partnership with the Bell Group to launch the North West’s only ‘Bell Decorating Academy’. This partnership will offer students opportunities including specialised masterclasses by Bell Group tradesmen, work experience placements, apprenticeships and specialist equipment and materials to aid lessons.
Age 16/18 – You require four 9 – 2 GCSE subject grades, including maths and English Language.
Age 19+ – You require GCSE A* – E in English and maths / Entry 3 qualification in English and maths or working at Entry 3 English and maths on our assessment.
What will this course lead on to?
The successful completion of this course could lead to a possible apprenticeship programme. During the course all learners are encouraged to gain work experience in order to make the transition to the workplace as smooth as possible.
What will I learn on this course?
The preparation of different surfaces and substrates, the application of different types of finishes and the communication skills required to work with others in the workplace.
New enrichment activities include; sport tournaments, table tennis, Xbox competitions, remote control model racing and mini caravan building.
How will I be assessed?
At the end of the course each learner has to complete a practical assessment to prove their skills in order to achieve the full qualification.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
Each learner will require Overalls, safety boots, writing equipment and a ring binder with note paper.
