What will I learn on this course?
You will study nine mandatory units and approximately two/three optional units (depending on credit value). The some of the units you will study are:
- Child and young person development
- Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
- Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
- Equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
- Help improve own and team practice in schools
- Maintain and support relationships with children and young people
- Support children and young people’s health and safety
- Support children and young people’s positive behaviour
- Support learning activities

This Level 2 course is a nationally recognised qualification and provides for candidates who work with pupils individually or in groups under the supervision of a teacher in teaching and learning support or who wish to work in this field. It enhances the employability of individuals wishing to extend their practice into the area of teaching and learning support.
How will I be assessed?
The Level 2 certificate approximately 11 – 12 units of work (depending on credit value for the optional units). These are achieved via written assignments, class tasks and work based assessed criteria. In addition you will produce and submit a placement portfolio.
What are the Entry Requirements?
GCSE English and maths at grade D/3 or above or Level 1 equivalent qualification in English and maths or achieving Level 1 on our college assessments.
You must confirm a placement in a school (not pre-school) for a minimum of 1 full day per week as an employee or volunteer before you can enrol on the course. A confirmation email or letter will be required from the school.

What will this course lead on to?
You will be able to move directly into employment as a Teaching Assistant or progress on to the Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools or Access to Education pathway.
