Course Overview:
The HND in Performing Arts (Technical Arts), expands the skills acquired at level 4. The HND course explores each specialist area in further detail, whilst developing new techniques and competencies in areas required for a career in the dynamic, creative arts industries.
Topics included in the HND programme include The Freelance Makeup Artist, Special Effects 2, Creative Research Project, Management Role and Hair & Makeup Design. The course also offers the module; working in creative education, which allows students to gain valuable experience in a teaching or training role which opens further career options.
Students will have the opportunity to work on live briefs through established links with theatre production companies, fashion houses and makeup specialists. A variety of assessment methods will be used throughout the programme including, sketch book evidence, assignments, presentations, and practical application.
Students will have the opportunity to exhibit their work as part of a final year exhibition/show.
On completion of the HND students will be well placed to pursue a career as a make up artist in a variety of retail, commercial and theatrical or TV settings. Students may wish to continue their studies on a one year “top up” to gain a BA (Hons) degree.
When you enrol, you will receive the date of your first induction session where you will receive your timetable for the academic year.

Entry Requirements:
For entry on to the HND, candidates will need at least a pass at HNC Performing Arts, or an equivalent level 4 qualification, with a compatible unit structure.
An interview for new students is required, where you will need to prove some experience in design, hair and make-up, production arts, or equivalent, with a satisfactory reference and portfolio of work.
Mature students with relevant experience may also be considered.
Additional Information:
The HND course requires students to purchase a specialist kit, which will be discussed at interview. The cost of the kit will be included within the course fees. There may be occasions when students will be required to work in the evening or weekends as part of their work experience, which will form part of the evidenced based practice.
