What is this course about?
The purpose of the T Level Technical Qualification in Education and Early Years is to ensure you have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into skilled employment or higher-level technical training relevant to the T Level.
The course also carries UCAS points necessary to enter higher education.
What will I learn on this course?
During the 2 years you are on the course, you will study a wide range of subjects including:
- Wider Education Sector.
- Supporting Education.
- Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity and Wellbeing.
- Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Child Development.
- Working in Partnership.
- Professional Practice.
During this course you will study in college three days a week and attend an industry placement for the other two, which will be supported by our dedicated industry placement team.
Industry placements are intended to provide you with the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for skilled employment in the workforce.
Enrichment Opportunities:
You could visit universities to experience student life in taster days. Additionally, you will be able to earn a Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid qualification in year 2 of your course. We also have virtual babies that students may be able to take home to look after for a night (with parent/carer written permission).
How will I be assessed?
You will achieve the qualification by completing a range of externally assessed methods to include:
Year 1 – Core assessment components.
- The Core Examination
- The Employer Set Project (ESP).
Year 2 – Occupational Specialism.
- Assignment 1 – Structured observation of skills on the industry placement
- Assignment 2 – Planning activity
- Assignment 3 – Analysis and evaluation of 2 case studies
In addition, you will be expected to complete class tasks, assignments and extended learning tasks.
Students receive guidance to monitor their own progress, meet deadlines, and reach their potential throughout the course.
Are there any costs associated with the course?
A polo shirt or tunic is required for use in college and placement as part of the standard daily attire. A hoodie or zipped hoodie may also be purchased if needed. You will be given the necessary information how to purchase these items during the enrolment process.
The usual stationery items should be purchased in readiness for the start of your course, such as writing equipment, note pads, lever arch files and A6 flash cards.
Entry Requirements:
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 9 – 4 to include grade 4 in English Language, Maths, and 4:4 in Science.
Students must also have a clear DBS. You will also be expected to organise a DBS to enable you to attend placement. There is no cost for full time school leavers on this course.
Progression:
Students who achieve this qualification could progress to the following:
- Employment as an education technician or a primary/secondary/tertiary teaching and support assistant
- Higher education
- Apprenticeship (progression to lower-level apprenticeships may also be possible in some circumstances, if the content is sufficiently different).
