What is this course about?
This course is a practical, hands-on course delivered by our tutors with over 35 years’ experience in the industry. The course also includes some theory work that will teach you the foundations of carpentry and joinery and allow you to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment. To be successful on this course, you need to have commitment and enthusiasm, a willingness to work as part of a team, and be of good attendance and punctuality. Elements of Level 2 site joinery will be introduced during the course, this will give each candidate the opportunity to extend their joinery skills and knowledge in preparation for progression onto the Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery site course.

If you have a keen interest in learning the basics of carpentry and joinery and want to learn new skills working with timber, either as a vocational option or just simply to learn how to carry out basic tasks around the house and garden.
Entry Requirements:
GCSE grade E/2 in maths and English or Entry Level 3 Functional Skills in maths and English OR achieving Entry Level 3 in maths and English on our college assessment.
What will I learn on this course?
• How to use basic woodworking hand tools to produce basic joints to then construct a 6 jointed frame.
• How to maintain and use carpentry and joinery hand and power tools.
• The course will include both practical and theory sessions.
The theory sessions will require all candidates to be able to complete theory work from home. If this is an issue, then alternative arrangements will be put into place.
How will I learn and be assessed?
Practical and theory work will be assessed in line with awarding body requirements. This will be a mixture of online externally set and marked examinations and practical synoptic assessments.
