Thinking College Isn’t for You? Think Again!
Whatever your reasons are for considering returning to college, career change, personal development, or simply pursuing a passion, below are some answers to questions we often get asked:
Is College for me?
Yes, it is!
We offer a wide range of courses across diverse subject areas, designed to suit learners of all backgrounds and life stages. Whether you’re returning to study after a break or starting for the first time, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
I won’t fit in – Is college full of young people?
Not true!
At Riverside College, over 2,000 adult learners study across full-time and part-time programmes. Our dedicated Adult Courses ensure you’ll be learning alongside like-minded mature students.
I didn’t get any qualifications at school, will I get accepted on a course?
Yes!
We offer courses at every level, including entry-level and introductory programmes that are ideal for those new to education or returning after a break. These courses are designed to help you build confidence and develop essential skills in a supportive environment.
Each course page clearly lists its entry requirements. If the course you’re interested in requires qualifications you don’t yet have, don’t worry, we offer a range of stepping-stone courses to help you reach the level you need.
What is the cost? Will it be too expensive?
Not necessarily!
Many adult learners are eligible for free courses, funding, or learning loans, this can depend on the level of the course, your current qualifications, or even where you live.
If you’re unemployed or receiving benefits, you may also be able to study at no cost.
We also offer a wide selection of FREE courses and a competitive bursary scheme to help with additional costs, making education more accessible than you might think.
Will I be able to fit a college course into my busy life?
We offer a flexible timetable, why not?
We understand the demands of work and family life. That’s why we offer flexible study options, including evening classes, part-time courses, online course and school-friendly timetables. Eligible learners may also receive childcare support to help you return to the classroom.
I’m worried, will I be able to keep up with the work?
Yes!
Our tutors are experienced in supporting adult learners and understand the challenges of returning to study. Courses are designed to be accessible, and we offer additional learning support, study skills workshops, and one-to-one help if needed.
Will this actually help me get a job?
Lots of our adult courses are designed with employability in mind. Many of our qualifications are industry recognised with practical elements of the course taking place in our industry standard facilities alongside. We also have strong links with local employers and offer career advice from our ACE Team.
Some of our adult courses can then lead onto higher education on one of our degree level qualifications or at university.
I don’t know what course to choose?
We can help!
Our Open Events are a great opportunity to visit the college, speak to staff and have a look around our outstanding facilities. Our Adult Admissions Team are here to talk through your goals and help you find the right course. Whether you want to retrain, upskill, or explore a new interest, we’ll help you make an informed choice.
