99.6% A level Pass Rate & 99% Vocational Pass Rate
Students and teachers have been celebrating outstanding results with an overall 99.6% pass rate at A level and 79% high grades, and a 99% vocational pass rate with 55% of vocational students gaining the top grades of three distinctions (equivalent to 3 As at A level).
These results are a further improvement on the 2011 results which placed the College as fourth nationally out of 330 Colleges in England.

Mary Murphy, Head of Sixth Form said “We are absolutely delighted with the outstanding A level results our students have achieved this year, especially the increase in high grades. They are now making their way to University and we wish them every success. “
The College is also celebrating outstanding vocational results. We achieved a 99% pass rate in level three qualifications with 55% of our vocational students achieving three distinctions which is equivalent to 3 A grades at A level.
“We value every student as a unique individual and surround them with opportunities for personal growth and development. We are continuing to invest in our teachers and our facilities, whilst providing individualised pastoral care and an extensive programme of enrichment. “
The College’s Centres of Excellence in Science and Maths, Performing Arts and Sport continue to inspire young gifted and talented students to exceed their potential through a range of activities. This year these activities included trips to Oxford and Cambridge, specialist workshops in New York and inspiring visits from special guests including Olympic champion Colin Jackson. “The College has also been graded as outstanding for its advanced level courses added value by ALPs (The Advanced Level Performance system), and has been ranked as number one in the country for Physics, Economics, English and Sport on the same measure.”
High flying students are overjoyed
Hannah Oldfield: A A A B
Hannah Oldfield, previously of The Bankfield School in Widnes, is now off to the University of Leeds to study Theatre and Performance after achieving an A in Psychology, A in English Literature, A in General Studies and a B in Theatre Studies. Hannah said, “I am really happy with my results,I really loved being at Cronton. I’m looking forward to going to university and moving to Leeds. In the future I would like to be an actress or a drama therapist.” Whilst at College Hannah was part of the Centre of Excellence for Performing Arts and played key roles in major college productions whilst also achieving her Grade 7 in Musical Theatre.
Tiffany Deans-Green: A B B B
Tiffany Deans-Green, another high achiever, previously of Wade Deacon High School, has realised her dreams of going to the University of York to study Biochemistry. Tiffany achieved an A in Biology and Bs in Chemistry, Maths and General Studies. Tiffany, who earlier this year was awarded with a prestigious Nuffield Bursary Award said, “I would like to work as a research scientist. I chose this College due to its excellent reputation for science, and I am really pleased with my results and excited about university.”
Clarissa Wilson: A B C
Clarissa Wilson, previously of The Heath School, achieved an A in Psychology, B in English Language and a C in History. She is now off to the University of Liverpool to study Psychology in order to become a Clinical or Forensic Psychologist. Clarissa said, “I’m really happy with my results, this is a fantastic College, I chose to come here because of its excellent reputation and because it’s so easy to get to from Runcorn.”
Ryan Cain: A A B B
Ryan Cain, previously of Halewood Centre for Learning, was delighted to receive an A in Maths, A in Biology, B in Chemistry and a B in Physics. Ryan is now off to the University of Liverpool after winning one of their scholarships. Ryan is going to study Civil and Structural Engineering in order to become a Chartered Engineer. He said, “I am really pleased with my results, the College has excellent teachers who are really supportive.”
Callum Stevens: A* A A A
Callum Stevens, from Penketh High School, has been celebrating excellent results at the end of his first year. He achieved an outstanding A* in his A level Maths which he has completed in one year, whilst also gaining all As in his AS subjects Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Callum said, “I am absolutely delighted with my results, this year I am going to be applying to University to become a Research Scientist in Physics. This College has really well equipped science labs, friendly staff and the scholarship I won has really helped.”
James Leyshon: A A B B C
James Leyshon, previously of St Francis Xavier’s High School, picked up his AS results today achieving an A in History, A in Government and Politics, B in English Literature, B in General Studies and a C in Economics. James said, “I am really pleased with my results and looking forward to my second year. The College is has a great range of courses and the staff are excellent. After I finish my A levels I am hoping to study a History and Politics degree at Lancaster University to either become a history teacher or work in politics.”
