What is this course about?
This course looks at the most exciting and ever-changing world of hairdressing. You will be introduced to a variety of hairdressing treatments and will get the opportunity to practice your hairdressing techniques in the College industry salons. By taking part in photoshoots and fashion shows you will explore the hair and beauty sector. This course looks at developing your customer service skills and presenting a professional image.

Entry Requirements:
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 – 2 including English Language and Maths. Hairdressing is a personal service; people skills are also important.
What will this course lead on to?
Progression on to Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing or a career as a salon assistant within a salon.
What will I learn on this course?
Within this course you will learn – Shampoo and Conditioning hair, Blow drying and Styling, Dressing Long hair, Plaiting hair and Basic Colouring techniques, you will also learn how to create a hair and beauty image by taking part in a fashion shoot or fashion show. As part of this course, you will also be required to work on English and Maths (if in age group 16-18) and complete an industry placement as this will increase your job opportunities or progression on to higher education.

Duke of Edinburgh Award, Driving Test Theory, workshops from major product manufactures, trips and visits to competition events, hair & beauty fairs, beauty & fashion makeup sessions.
How will I be assessed?
Your practical skills will be assessed by ongoing assessments throughout the programme, tests may be required to complete units and check knowledge, also you will have to complete projects and produce a portfolio of your work.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
You will require a uniform and kit, the Centre of Excellence in Beauty, Hair, Media Makeup and Nails aims to provide all school leavers with a tunic and basic kit when you start your course. You will receive more information at your interview. (This is subject to funding and will be confirmed at enrolment in August.)
You will also be required to wear full-length black trousers and black coloured shoes (eg. ballet pumps). You will also provide files etc for your coursework and photographic evidence is required for practical assessments.
Facilities:
At the Centre of Excellence for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy we have refurbished contemporary facilities, including three hairdressing salons, two beauty salons, two media make up studios and a nail salon. This provides students with the opportunity to run their own salons and showcase their skills to the public.
