What is this course about?
During this course you will learn how to set up and maintain computer systems. You will be able to carry out day-to-day tasks for safely installing hardware and complete practical projects that cover the creative side of IT, including creating digital graphics and websites. You will also develop skills to design and create systems using Excel and Access. You will also develop your wider knowledge of the Online World and Technology Systems.
What will I learn on the course?
You will learn new skills in a variety of office software, including creating spreadsheets in Excel and developing databases in Access. You will also learn about the benefits and risks to upgrading computers and be able to complete hardware and software upgrades. You will also have the opportunity to learn about different design concepts that can be used in your own work to produce professional digital graphics in Photoshop and Illustrator; you will enhance these further by learning to make your own web portfolio to display your work to others.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 9 – 3 including English language and maths.
What will this course lead on to?
Successful completion of this Information and Creative Technology course could lead to the Level 3 Foundation Diploma in IT or Multimedia Computing. You will also be prepared to apply for a range of different apprenticeships including Infrastructure Technician and Digital Marketer.
The qualification prepares you for employment in the IT industry, with opportunities such as:

- Office Systems Developer
Information and Creative Technology Enrichment Opportunities
There are a variety of Enrichment activities that you can get involved in:
CISCO IT Essentials; Local and National Competitions; Trips and Visits into industry related organisations including: EGX, Alton Towers and Bletchley Park. You will also be invited to our international trip, this year was Computing Live! at Disneyland Paris.
How will I be assessed?
Themes will be used for assignments to cover the assessment criteria for a range of units. You will be assessed using a range of methods including: Creation of IT products; written documentation; observations and discussions. You will also complete two externally assessed exams for The Online World and Technology Systems
Are there any costs associated with this course?
Standard course materials such as, pen, pencil, and paper will be needed. All students will have OneDrive cloud storage that will allow them to access work outside of the classroom. You will be required to pay for trips and visits.
