What is this course about?
The course will cover a detailed understanding of the following topics:
- Safe Working Practices
- Information, Quantities and Communication with Others
- Building Methods and Construction
- Roofing & Flooring
- Stairs & Kitchens
- Skirting boards, architraves
- Door frames, Doors, windows
As part of the course you will produce several pieces of practical work to be assessed that will demonstrate your ability and allow you to progress.

Our new purpose built workshops at the Kingsway Campus has been developed to accommodate all of the necessary facilities and equipment you could hope for to achieve the best results. Our team of lecturers and assessors are experienced in all types of Carpentry & Joinery and have a wealth of knowledge to pass on to our learners. As part of your studies it is expected that you will undertake some work experience in the community and this will add to your experience of work situations.
During the course the opportunity to complete projects out on site will arise, this gives you the additional skills of gaining real life work experience to prepare you for the workplace.
Level 1 Diploma in Joinery AND Grade D or Level 1 in English and Maths.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
Each learner will require a Riverside College Hi-Vis Polo T-shirt, Overall pants, safety boots, writing equipment and a ring binder with note paper.

What will this course lead on to?
The successful completion of this course could lead to a Level 3 Diploma or possible apprenticeship programme. During the course all learners are encouraged to gain work experience in order to make the transition to the workplace as smooth as possible.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is carried out on all practical tasks throughout the year. At the end of the course each learner has to show the knowledge they have gained through an end of year exam in order to achieve the full qualification.
