Business and Retail – Level 2 BTEC Extended Certificate

What is this course about?
BTEC Firsts are vocationally-related qualifications designed to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding through the application of learning and skills in a work-related context. This course is full time substantial and runs for 3 days per week.
What will I learn on this course?
Units studied will be Enterprise in the Business World which will explore key introductory business theory, Finance for Business which prepares learners with the essential financial principles that underpin successful business. Other units include Working in Business Teams and Promoting a Brand. You will be given the opportunity to apply own knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to research, skills and knowledge to work-related contexts and case studies to achieve the skills you require for workplace or education progression.
What are the Entry Requirements?
4 GCSEs at grade 9 – 3 including English language and maths or successful completion of a BTEC level 1 Diploma including Level 1 Functional Skills qualification in English and Mathematics.
What will this course lead on to?
Employment in Business or Retail or candidates can move onto Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business. BTEC qualifications are also designed to allow learners to progress to other level 2 qualifications or apprenticeships, or to junior roles in the industry they are learning about.
How will I be assessed?
This is mainly a coursework-based qualification, however there will be one on-line assessment in Finance and a paper based assessment on Marketing. You will be assessed through continued assessment in an interesting variety of methods, from pair and group work, presentations and a dragon’s den style pitch.
It is important during this course that you visit stores and retail outlets in Widnes, Manchester and Liverpool 1 to enable you to observe and apply your knowledge. There will be a variety of trips and visits and regular guest speakers and employer input. You will also be expected to source a work placement as part of the course.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
Many of our students study for free, as depending upon your personal circumstances you may be eligible for funding. Please see our Guide to Fees on the Adult section of this website or enquire at your interview to find out if you are eligible. If you are required to pay your fees you can pay in three instalments, the first instalment is payable upon enrolment in August/September followed by two further payments in October and November. Please note that course fees are subject to change.
All lessons take place in classrooms that are fully equipped with PCs and students can access course materials electronically from home via a PC.
