Painting and Decorating Students Refresh Halton Stadium
Painting and Decorating students at Riverside College have been granted a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable real life work experience by helping to refresh the Halton Stadium with Halton Borough Council.
Over two weeks, the Painting and Decorating team, accompanied by tutor John Rowlands, demonstrated the wide range of skills they have developed during their time at College. The job included a large concourse area, a ladies and gentlemans bathroom area, along with two corporate boxes overlooking the pitch.
Painting and Decorating tutors have been working with Halton Borough Council to allow students at the College to gain work experience opportunities in the industry that they can take back into the classroom and put towards their course.
The work carried out by the students was made possible by nationwide painting and decorating company Brewers Decorator Centres who provided all the paints, brushes and materials needed for the students to complete the job to a high standard.
Painting and Decorating tutor John Rowlands said, “Overall I was pleased with the students undertaking a real life job and were treated like site contractors throughout the project to give them a life like experience. They had to sign in and out every day, they had a tool box talk, and all PPE was worn including high visibility vests.”
Halton Borough Council have been very accommodating to help provide the learners with areas that needed a freshen up. Brewers have also been an important part of this project, having provided the tools and materials needed to carry out each phase of the project. We hope to meet up again to organise further projects for the new intake of students in September. I think it is vital that the students gain onsite experience to progress through the qualification.”
